Postnatal Mat Classes

At Arc Pilates we help you to reconnect with your body after childbirth.

Getting back to exercise after having a baby is a very individual thing. For me it was about 7 weeks after my daughter was born that I managed to get to a pilates class. It was more about organising logistics, leaving my baby long enough between feeds than how I was feeling physically.

Some mothers are keen and able to start exercising within weeks of childbirth whilst others need to take a bit more time to recover and reconnect with their body after what might have been a difficult birth. There is no formula, every woman is different.

In these classes I will focus on pelvic floor awareness and its relationship to the rest of the body, improvement in the separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), gluteal strength to enhance pelvic stability, opening up the upper body to rebalance the carrying and feeding postures and upper body strength.

When you are ready pilates has many positive emotional and psychological benefits. Getting out of the house and doing something for yourself will benefit your mood, your sleep and your nervous system.

Jasmine Scibilia

After over 10 years of practising Pilates, Jasmine completed her Matwork Instruction at National Pilates Training in 2018. She attended the prenatal course at Arc Pilates as a newly trained mat teacher. Alicia could see she had a passion to teach prenatal women and help encourage them in their journey to motherhood and joined the Arc team in 2019.

She has a beautiful boy born in 2018.

Alicia Moran

Alicia is committed to supporting women throughout their pregnancy, birth and beyond. She started teaching the prenatal course at Arc after having 2 children and realising what got her through was a great support team. She feels offering prenatal classes was a way she could combine teaching pilates with techniques for coping during labour as well as sharing birth stories. Women need a space, outside of the health system for them to process this life changing event and feel supported to make their own choices going into childbirth.

She has two lovely children born in 2010 and 2013.
